About

Line editing is a line by line editing for smoothness and clarity while maintaining your voice and style. It usually comes after a developmental edit, and before a copyedit. Not every writer need a line edit, but many choose to do this work to make sure their writing is as polished as possible.

With line editing, I help writers clarify meaning, eliminating jargon, and polishing language.

This detailed edit allows for everything to be reviewed at the sentence and paragraph level.

The purpose of a line edit is not to comb your manuscript for errors– instead, I’m focusing on how you use language to communicate your story to the reader.

  • Do your chapters convey a sense of atmosphere, emotion, and tone?

  • Do the words you’ve chosen convey a precise meaning, or are you using broad generalizations and clichés?

  • Are their overused words or inconsistencies?

This editing takes place on the page, with Track Changes on so you can accept or reject suggestions. When needed, I will offer ideas and give you options (not fixes) to make your lines flow better in the form of comments you can implement, ignore, or resolve.
